Cleaner photos = faster sales. This senior-friendly cheat sheet shows how to set up your phone, light, and background so buyers trust your listing—and you finish in minutes, not hours.

Tools I use: A compact photo lightbox, a simple phone tripod, and a Bluetooth shutter (no camera shake).

The 3-Photo Template (Fast & Trustworthy)

  1. Front 45° “hero” shot — shows shape & depth.
  2. Close-up detail — texture, stitching, label, or condition.
  3. Size reference — ruler/coin/hand or clean backdrop.

Tip: Use the 2× lens for #1 and #2. Keep backgrounds simple (white, grey, or kraft).

Lighting That Just Works

  • Best: A desktop photo lightbox (even light, true color).
  • Good: Window light (not direct sun). Place the item beside the window, not in it.
  • Bounce card: Put white paper/card opposite the light to fill shadows.

Backgrounds (No Distractions)

  • Use the lightbox backdrop or a vinyl background (white, light grey, or kraft).
  • Wipe lint/dust; tiny specks show at 2× zoom.
  • Keep props minimal (e.g., ruler).

Step-By-Step (1 Minute Per Shot)

  1. Place item in lightbox (or near window) on a clean backdrop.
  2. Switch to 2× lens. Tap-and-hold to lock focus/exposure. Nudge exposure if needed.
  3. Brace the phone or use a Bluetooth shutter. Shoot the hero, detail, and size shots.
  4. Review: crop edges, adjust slightly (straighten/brighten), no heavy filters.

Common Fixes

Yellow or blue color cast

Turn off lamp light; use lightbox only or window light only. Mixed light causes color shifts. Shiny glare on plastics

Move the light higher or further; add a white paper bounce to soften reflections. Blurry close-ups

Step back slightly and use 2×; lock focus; brace the phone or use a tripod.
